Complete Wind and Water Information

The Garmin GMI/GNX Wired Sail Pack 52 provides a comprehensive view of the sailing conditions above and below the water.

The gWind masthead transducer measures wind speed and wind angle, while the DST810 smart transducer provides:

  • Water depth
  • Speed through the water
  • Water temperature
  • Vessel heel and trim
  • Pitch and roll information

The collected information is distributed through the vessel’s NMEA 2000 network, allowing it to be displayed on the included instruments and other compatible Garmin equipment.

Garmin GMI 20 Marine Instrument

The GMI 20 features a bright 4-inch colour display with a glass-bonded lens and anti-glare finish.

It is designed to display more than 100 marine and vessel parameters, depending on the sensors and compatible equipment connected to the NMEA 2000 network.

Available information can include:

  • Water depth
  • Boat speed
  • Water temperature
  • Wind speed and direction
  • Heading
  • Engine information
  • Fuel information
  • Navigation data
  • Environmental information
  • Additional compatible NMEA 2000 data

The display uses large digits and configurable colour profiles to provide excellent visibility during both daytime and nighttime operation.

Garmin GNX 20 Marine Instrument

The GNX 20 features a high-contrast, glass-bonded monochrome LCD display with black digits on a white background.

It offers five configurable display layouts together with gauge and graph display modes. Depending on the connected sensors, the GNX 20 can display depth, speed, wind and more than 50 marine and vessel parameters.

Its low power consumption makes it particularly suitable for sailing boats where electrical efficiency is important.

Garmin gWind Wired Transducer

The included gWind transducer uses a three-bladed propeller and Garmin’s twin-fin design to provide accurate wind speed and stable wind angle information.

The three-bladed propeller is designed to provide responsive wind speed readings, particularly in lighter air, while the twin-fin configuration helps maintain a stable true wind angle.

Optical sensing technology provides good linearity and reliable performance across the transducer’s operating range.

Unlike a wireless masthead sensor, this model uses a wired connection, providing continuous communication without relying on a rechargeable masthead battery.

Airmar DST810 Smart Transducer

The included Airmar DST810 is a multi-function thru-hull smart transducer that provides depth, speed and temperature information through a single 52 mm hull fitting.

The DST810 also includes an attitude sensor capable of providing vessel heel, trim, pitch and roll information.

Bluetooth connectivity allows installers and users to calibrate compatible speed and sensor data using the Airmar CAST mobile application.

The transducer connects directly to the NMEA 2000 network, simplifying integration with the included Garmin displays and compatible chartplotters.

NMEA 2000 Integration

The included displays and DST810 transducer integrate through a powered NMEA 2000 network.

The system can share compatible information with equipment such as:

  • Garmin chartplotters
  • Garmin marine instruments
  • Autopilot systems
  • Heading sensors
  • GPS antennas
  • Engine gateways
  • Additional NMEA 2000 sensors

A correctly powered and terminated NMEA 2000 backbone is required. Additional backbone components may be needed depending on the vessel’s existing installation.

The gWind transducer connects through the included mast and Nexus cabling to the GND 10 interface, which bridges the wind data between the Nexus system and NMEA 2000 network.

Installation Notes

  • The DST810 requires a 52 mm diameter hole through the hull.
  • Check the hull material and installation location before drilling.
  • The DST810 should be installed in clean, non-aerated water flow.
  • Avoid installation behind hull fittings, strakes, steps or other sources of turbulence.
  • The gWind transducer should be installed horizontally at the masthead.
  • The wind sensor should be aligned with the vessel’s centreline wherever possible.
  • The mast cable must be routed from the masthead transducer to the GND 10 interface.
  • A powered and correctly terminated NMEA 2000 network is required.
  • Additional NMEA 2000 backbone components may be required.
  • True wind calculations may require heading and boat-speed information.
  • Professional installation is recommended, particularly where a new thru-hull fitting is required.
