Dometic Seastar Liquid Tie Bar Kit - Hand Operated

The Dometic SeaStar HA5471-2 Liquid Tie bar Valve is designed for hydraulic steering systems that link two outboard motors or rudders using a hydraulic tie bar instead of a mechanical one. Its primary function is to facilitate periodic realignment of the engines and assist in removing air from the system without the need to disassemble any components.

Installation Overview

• Mounting the Valve: Install the valve securely using the provided bracket. Ensure the valve is pulled through the bracket, and the panel nut is hand-tightened, followed by an additional 1/6 turn with a wrench. Avoid over-tightening to prevent damage 
• Connecting Hydraulic Lines: Attach the hydraulic hoses to the valve's compression fittings as per the system's schematic. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.
• Bleeding the System: Fill the helm with hydraulic oil and attach a filler device. Open the valve and sequentially bleed each cylinder by turning the steering wheel and opening the corresponding bleed fittings until air-free oil flows 

Realignment Procedure

Over time, due to factors like seal leakage or system pressure changes, engines may become misaligned. To realign:

• Open the Valve: This allows hydraulic fluid to balance between the cylinders.
• Manually Align Engines: Adjust the engines so they are parallel and correctly aligned.
• Close the Valve: Once alignment is achieved, close the valve to lock the positions

Maintenance Tips

• Regular Checks: Inspect the valve and hydraulic lines periodically for signs of wear or corrosion.
• Use Compatible Components: Always use SeaStar-approved parts to maintain system integrity and safety
• System Bleeding: If steering feels unresponsive or spongy, it may indicate air in the system. Perform the bleeding procedure to restore optimal performance.
