Description
The Garmin AIRMAR B117 is a low-profile, bronze thru-hull transducer providing reliable depth and water-temperature information for compatible Garmin sonar systems.
Its dual-frequency 50/200 kHz operation combines wide deep-water coverage with detailed shallow-water performance. The streamlined housing sits almost flush with the hull, helping maintain clean water flow and dependable sonar readings at higher vessel speeds.
Key Features
- Traditional dual-frequency 50/200 kHz sonar
- 600 W power rating
- Depth and water-temperature sensing
- Low-profile bronze thru-hull housing
- 0° tilted element
- Designed for hull deadrise angles from 0° to 7°
- 45° beam at 50 kHz
- 12° beam at 200 kHz
- Maximum depth performance up to approximately 366 m
- Performs reliably at higher boat speeds
- Suitable for fibreglass and wooden hulls
- Garmin 8-pin transducer connector
- Approximately 10 m cable
Sonar Performance
The B117 uses two traditional sonar frequencies:
50 kHz
The lower 50 kHz frequency provides a wide beam and improved deep-water performance. It is suitable for locating bottom structure and fish across a larger area beneath the vessel.
- Beamwidth: 45°
- Maximum depth: Up to approximately 366 m / 1,200 ft
200 kHz
The higher 200 kHz frequency provides a narrower beam with improved detail and target separation in shallow and medium-depth water.
- Beamwidth: 12°
- Maximum depth: Up to approximately 213 m / 700 ft
Actual depth performance depends on installation, water conditions, seabed composition and the connected sonar module.

Hull Compatibility
The bronze housing is suitable for:
- Fibreglass hulls
- Solid fibreglass hulls
- Wooden hulls
Do not install this bronze transducer directly in an aluminium or steel hull, as contact between dissimilar metals can cause electrolytic corrosion.
For cored fibreglass hulls, the core must be correctly removed and sealed around the installation point in accordance with the installation instructions.
Deadrise and Installation
This model has a 0° tilted element and is intended for relatively flat mounting areas with a hull deadrise between 0° and 7°.
For accurate operation:
- Install the transducer where it remains in clean, turbulence-free water.
- Avoid locations behind strakes, fittings, steps or water intakes.
- Keep it clear of propeller turbulence.
- Ensure the transducer face remains continuously submerged.
- Follow the supplied instructions for sealing and tightening the bronze housing.
A different tilted-element model may be more suitable where the available mounting position has a deadrise greater than 7°.
Garmin Compatibility
This version terminates in a Garmin 8-pin connector and is intended for Garmin chartplotters, fishfinders and sonar modules with a compatible traditional 8-pin sonar port.
Potentially compatible equipment includes selected:
- Garmin GPSMAP xsv chartplotters
- Garmin ECHOMAP units with an 8-pin traditional-sonar input
- Garmin GSD sonar modules
- Other Garmin displays supporting 600 W, 50/200 kHz transducers
Compatibility must be checked against the exact Garmin model and sonar-port type before ordering. An adapter cable may be required for displays using a different connector.
Important Sonar Information
The B117 is a traditional 50/200 kHz transducer. It does not provide:
- CHIRP sonar
- ClearVü scanning sonar
- SideVü scanning sonar
- Speed-through-water data
It is designed specifically for dependable traditional depth, fish-target and water-temperature information.
