Description
A penny washer is a wide, flat metal washer with a large outside diameter relative to its bolt-hole diameter. Thanks to the large “footprint,” penny washers distribute the load of a bolt, screw or nut over a larger surface area - preventing damage to soft or thin materials (wood, plastic, sheet metal), reducing risk of pull-through, and improving joint stability. They’re used in construction, carpentry, automotive/vehicle repair, marine, DIY, and anywhere a “wide bearing surface” under a fastener head or nut is required.
Depending on material and finish, penny washers can also offer good corrosion resistance (e.g. in stainless-steel versions).
Features
- Large outer diameter (“wide-footprint”) - spreads clamping load over a wider area than standard flat washers; especially useful for thin or fragile base materials (wood, plastic, sheet metal).
- Prevents material damage/pull-through - reduces risk of screw heads or nuts tearing out or sinking into soft substrates.
- Improves joint stability and load distribution - helps ensure even load distribution, reduces stress concentration under bolt/nut heads.
- Material & finish options - available in stainless steel (A2 / A4 / 316) for corrosion resistance, zinc-plated steel for general purposes, or mild steel depending on use case. Versatile usage - suitable for general construction, woodworking, furniture assembly, automotive (bodywork, mudguards, panels), marine, DIY, and repair jobs.
Specifications
