12 V lithium battery, 230 V inverter/charger, solar charging and touchscreen monitoring

Looking for a power system that can charge from both an AC supply and sunlight? This pack combines a Mastervolt MLI Ultra lithium battery and CombiMaster inverter/charger with an EasyView 5 display, a solar panel and a Victron SmartSolar MPPT controller.

Connect to a suitable AC supply to charge the battery through the CombiMaster. When AC power is unavailable, the CombiMaster can produce 230 V power from the battery for suitably sized appliances. The solar panel and MPPT controller provide an additional way to charge the battery when sunlight is available.

Stored energy when you need it

The MLI Ultra 12/1250 stores 1250 Wh of nominal energy in a 12 V, 100 Ah LiFePO4 battery. Its integrated Battery Management System (BMS) monitors battery conditions and includes a safety switch. Built-in battery monitoring makes useful information, including state of charge, available to a correctly configured MasterBus system.

230 V power and AC battery charging

The CombiMaster combines a pure sine wave inverter, AC battery charger and AC transfer function in one unit. When a suitable AC supply is available, it can charge the battery and supply the connected AC circuit. When AC input is unavailable, its inverter can provide 230 V output using energy stored in the battery.

The inverter is rated at 2000 VA / 1600 W continuous output under Mastervolt's stated conditions. The built-in charger has a configurable maximum of 60 A; the installer must set the charging system appropriately for the battery and all connected charging sources.

Solar charging during daylight

The solar panel feeds the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30, which regulates solar energy to charge the 12 V battery. MPPT technology tracks the panel's operating point as sunlight changes. The controller has a maximum PV open-circuit voltage rating of 100 V and a rated battery charging current of 30 A. These are controller limits, not the amount of power that the included panel will produce.

Solar output changes with season, weather, shading, panel position and temperature. The panel can help replenish energy used during the day, but it does not guarantee that all connected appliances can run continuously from solar power.

Two ways to check your system

The EasyView 5 displays information from correctly connected Mastervolt devices through MasterBus, including battery and CombiMaster data. The Victron SmartSolar MPPT has built-in Bluetooth, allowing its solar charging information and settings to be accessed separately through the VictronConnect app on a compatible device.

The Victron MPPT does not connect directly to the EasyView 5 as a standard MasterBus device. Contact CH Marine if you need a particular arrangement for combined monitoring.

Is this pack right for your installation?

This pack may suit a boat, vehicle or suitable off-grid installation where you need 12 V battery storage, 230 V output and an additional solar charging source. Whether it meets your needs depends on the appliances you want to run, their start-up and continuous power requirements, and how much energy you use each day.

For perspective, a 100 W appliance running for five hours uses approximately 500 Wh before inverter losses and other system loads. Higher-power appliances will use the battery's stored energy faster. Solar contribution depends on the specific panel and available sunlight.

Installation requirements

This pack contains the products listed above; it is not a pre-wired installation kit. A qualified installer must specify the AC and DC wiring, battery and PV protection, isolation, mounting equipment and any additional communication accessories required. Both charging sources must be configured for the MLI Ultra battery, including appropriate charge limits and protection behaviour.
